Why the fuck do these exist? When did combat in a military become such a fucking chore that time limits became a thing?

These armies are primarily afraid of "24 hour raids" that never happen anymore. The longest raids I have seen in my years of being in the SLMC happened before the grids even merged. Nearly all raids, even ones that happen in places without time limits, are usually under 2 hours. If someone is losing, or they've lost the upper hand, they become discouraged and leave.
So why then, do people have time limits? Isn't it enough that the bases are horribly unbalanced towards the defenders? No. They need to limit you. You tried raiding CDF? They will close their base down, and every time we got close to their final objective, the sim would crash and the objectives reset.
It is yet another form of ratio rules. The defenders can make their base as unfair as they want, while attackers are left with nothing but their limp dicks. Of course a symmetrical base would be the perfect "fair base" but that's dumb. Games like Battlefield 4 have multiple routes to an objective, so a focused attack can cause a defeat for the defenders.
Obviously if an attacking force that is far better skilled in combat cannot get to the final objective, against a defending force of muscle furs that fills their sim, then something is clearly unfair.
It's getting to the point where I'm getting pissed off that some militaries actually make concessions in their weapon design for the sake of fairness, and yet some militaries do fuck all to help. I feel like it's not the community that's bitter, it's a specific group of people that is causing everyone else to have this cynical "If they're bullshitting, we need to bullshit too" attitude.

What time limits, ratio rules and regulations like it represent to me is the loss of SLMC's spirit.
/*begin rant*/ There was a time in this community when campaigns were waged for days or even weeks. I remember fending off waves of AN Marines at 2AM with only a few grunts by my side. When I was a Mercz-uh-teer I once attacked Cthulu Syndicate for nineteen straight hours. Nobody was banned and everyone continued fighting until the last man got tired and went home. Why? Because we actually enjoyed combat. We had pride in our militaries and loved doing what military do - defending the homefront from invaders. But this type of battle seems impossible with today's climate.
That's just not what it's about anymore. Combat has become a sideshow to military roleplay. The military themselves have devolved into smaller and smaller social cliques. Players would rather stand around alt-camming their armor and playing with their/each other's dicks than fight. In my limited experience returning to the grid it seems like combat serves as a means to ego trip for children who are obsessed with victory (at any cost)and admins who feel the need to flex their e-powers (inference of penis size goes here).
Really this comes down to the people in charge and what we're willing to tolerate as players. It's no secret that the avatar population of our community is hemorrhaging. Some have argued that the loss of interest is because SL Combat isn't on par with other shooters. I think this is wrong because SLC has NEVER been to the standard of a modern FPS even in it's hay day. What makes Second Life appealing as a platform is it's potential for creativity, as far as open world games go it is unique and this hasn't changed. By laying down regulations, restricting the scope of our wars, mistreating our opponents, abusing admin powers and basically playing the role of high school bullies we've effectively killed off SLMC's main draw and pushed players away. This is the reason we chose to close Grim Troops, it got to a point where there were only a few opponents and a few times of day we could attack without an ensuing drama fit. We have to remember that we're all in the same boat. We're pulling from the same pool of talent and soldiers. As the "good soldiers" leave we're left with the scum at the bottom of the barrel - we created a positive feedback loop to our collective detriment. /*end rant*/

It is simply the fear of seeing another military dickslap the military (ego*) you spend so much time creating and pouring money into. Hence time limits, objectives to distract you from their base, defender teleport system that takes them on top of a contested point, automatically recapturing neutral points, banning equipment when theirs is pretty much identical. Everyone in the AN literally dreams of the day when we have to fight with tooth and nail in the corridors of our own base again. People should relish the fight, not be too busy altcaming people waiting for a rule to be broken so you can reveal you ego boner over sim-wide announcements.

You can't have super long raids anymore because the majority of players in this community are now adults who have responsibilities, rather than teens who can play this game for 24 hours a day if they need to. This is pretty much the source of all of this communities problems.

And yet we're still acting like dick waving kids. Myself included, of course.
